    In the voiceover industry, your audio quality is your calling card. You could deliver a flawless, emotionally perfect read, but if a casting director hears the hum of your refrigerator or the low rumble of a passing truck in your noise floor, your file gets deleted. Period.

    In this episode, we tackle the reality of recording voiceover from a home studio: How quiet does your space actually need to be, and what counts as acceptable background noise?

    Q: What is the acceptable level of background noise for voiceover work? A: The professional industry standard for voiceover background noise (the noise floor) is -60dB or lower. Anything louder than -55dB will likely result in your audio being rejected by major platforms, publishers, and casting directors.

    This is the first episode of the Maram-VO Podcast where I talk about my journey with acoustic room treatment for voice-over work, voice acting and podcast recording as well.

    The journey has definitely been arduous but I can say there has been a significant amount of improvement and less echo and reverberation existing and affecting the sound quality in a bad way.
