In Manotick, a heartfelt community effort led by veteran Terry Hunter and supported by genealogical sleuths is finally uncovering the names of 22 fallen soldiers from the two World Wars—many missing from the village cenotaph. Driven by personal loss, including Barbara Usher’s father Sgt. Edward Menzie, the team faces hurdles like undigitized records and sparse wartime documentation, but they’ve already found three new names, including Gunner Philip Ryan. Their mission? To honor these unsung heroes with a virtual memorial, a commemorative book, and a special ceremony on September 26th—inviting descendants to join. If you know a missing name, contact Terry Hunter.
