This week is our last movie of Folk Horror Summer, The Devil’s Bath, and it really brought us full circle, touching on many of the themes of our previous movies.

This week we are covering Netflix’s 2017 movie the Ritual. We talk about its interesting monster and find out what monster we are at the end.

This week we are getting into the real horror side of Folk Horror Summer with Ari Aster’s Hereditary. With some amazing acting, exceptional directing and truly terrifying scares we found a lot to dig into with this one.

As we begin the second half of Folk Horror Summer, we dip our toes into The Virgin Spring, Ingmar Bergman’s Academy Award winning movie from 1960. Parallels and themes are emerging and we are beginning to see what makes Folk Horror, Folk Horror.

This week for Folk Horror Summer we are watching Peter Weir’s Picnic at Hanging Rock. Nymphlike girls clad in white, disturbing disappearances and mysterious landscapes give this classic a dreamlike quality that we found bewitching.

This week we are watching Mario Bava’s directorial debut, Black Sunday. It’s very atmospheric, a little vampiric, and chock full of curses and mayhem.

This week we timed our third Folk Horror Summer movie to align with the astrological calendar so we watched Midsommar for Midsummer. It was a very interesting movie that really captured the essence of Folk Horror and we had a lot to discuss.

This week we are covering Eve’s Bayou for Folk Horror Summer. Made in 1997 set in the 1960’s yet somehow timeless, this movie light on the horror but heavy on the atmosphere and excellent in every way.
