Man United's Biggest Problem Strikes Again in 2-0 Loss v Atletico Madrid in the Champions League

Manchester United have suffered another disappointing defeat, losing 2-0 to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League — and once again, the same familiar problems have come back to haunt Michael Carrick's side.

After a frustrating 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, United travelled to Madrid hoping to deliver a statement performance against Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid. Instead, another disappointing result has raised serious questions about the direction of this Manchester United team.

In this Manchester United vs Atletico Madrid post-match reaction, I'm breaking down why United continue to struggle against organised opposition, the recurring tactical issues under Michael Carrick and what needs to change before the season slips further away.

The biggest concern isn't necessarily the quality of individual players. It's how they're being used.

From the balance of the midfield to players operating outside their most effective positions, United continue to look like a team searching for a clear identity. Carlos Baleba offers athleticism, physicality and ball-winning ability, but Carrick must find the right combination alongside Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes to give United genuine control in midfield.

Further forward, questions remain about how to get the best out of Matheus Cunha and Amad, particularly against disciplined defensive structures like Atletico Madrid's.

And defensively, United must become far more difficult to break down if they're serious about competing at Champions League level.

One defeat away to Atletico Madrid isn't a disaster in isolation. But when the same problems keep appearing, it becomes increasingly difficult to dismiss them as individual bad performances.

Michael Carrick has some big decisions to make.
