MY PELVIC FLOOR. MY BODY. MY EXPERIENCE.
RADIO PAULINE | An Unscripted Personal Story
My mother taught me pelvic floor muscle control when I was five years old. At 44, I’m still practicing what she taught me.
In this episode of Radio Pauline, I share my personal history with pelvic floor training, mind-muscle connection, bladder control, and why I question certain medical recommendations based on my own experience.
I’m a fitness coach, not a medical doctor. This is my personal story, not medical advice or an exercise recommendation.
IN THIS EPISODE:
- A lesson from my mother: How my awareness of pelvic floor muscles began at age five.
- The muscle-control superpower: A teenage conversation about intimacy and the ability to consciously contract muscles.
- Pelvic floor awareness and strength training: How I incorporate muscular control into my daily life and workouts.
- My personal routine: What I’ve practiced for decades and why I continue.
- Where my experience conflicts with medical guidance: Why I question the recommendation against regularly interrupting the urine stream.
- My philosophy: Consistency, body awareness, independent thinking, and investing in my health as I age.
MEDICAL GUIDANCE & TRANSPARENCY
In this episode, I openly discuss my personal practice of interrupting my urine stream as part of my pelvic floor routine.
Medical guidance generally advises against regularly stopping urine flow as an exercise because it may interfere with normal bladder emptying and increase the risk of urinary tract infections.
Pelvic floor muscle exercises themselves are commonly recommended, but they are generally performed when not urinating. Proper pelvic floor function involves both contraction and relaxation.
My personal experience has been different from the risks described in that guidance. I have not experienced those complications, but that does not establish that my practice is safe or beneficial for others.
I share my experience and my disagreement openly, without claiming that my personal results disprove medical recommendations.
This podcast is not an instruction to follow my routine. For individual pelvic floor concerns or exercise guidance, consult a qualified healthcare professional.
