The Minnesota Twins welcomed Royce Lewis back to the Major League lineup and still lose three of four at home to the Kansas City Royals, who gained two games on the Twins in the AL Central standings. Dan remains optimistic that the team is going to be in the hunt in September. David isn't so sure after this latest home stand. While playing with a depleted starting rotation, the Minnesota Twins came home and won two of three against the Chicago White Sox, staying afloat in the middle of the AL Central Division and just a couple games back in the Wild Card. The bullpen continues to be in flux -- Kody Funderburk returned to St. Paul for some reason yet again -- but the Twins continue to find ways to mind the gaps. David wants to see the Twins rearrange the infield, while Dan is pleased to hear what Derek Shelton said about Royce Lewis. A road trip that started with a sweep ends with a sweep, as the Minnesota Twins lose all three games to the Pittsburgh Pirates. David and Dan discuss the road back to .500, which looks like a difficult one considering all the pitching injuries and the strain on the depth of the starting rotation. David wants to know how the Twins are addressing all of the Pirates' stolen bases, while Dan wants to see more prospects make their way to the Majors. There were positive performances for sure (by Brooks Lee and Kody Clemens), but the struggles were many in this series. They both try to stay a little bit optimistic. The Minnesota Twins capped their most exciting series of the season with one last victory on Sunday to give them a sweep over the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. David is still giddy having nearly fist pumped through his ceiling at the end of Game 3. Dan is a bit more measured -- after all, it's only the end of May. But the Twins are indeed sitting in playoff position, an unlikely spot to say the least. David has questions about how this lineup continues to produce, and Dan wonders just how good this bullpen could end up being. Despite getting some good pitching from the starters and the bullpen, the Minnesota Twins lost two of three at home to the border rival Milwaukee Brewers at Target Field. For the second series in the row, the Minnesota Twins take two of three, this time against the visiting Miami Marlins at Target Field. Sandwiched around another poor start from SWR were two excellent starts (and wins) by Bailey Ober and Zebby Matthews, each of whom draw praise from Dan and David. David chronicles the letdown of an evening it was for Minnesota sports fans on Wednesday, but he's in complete support of the decision to demote Matt Wallner.
