What if the reality you’ve been taught isn’t the whole story?

In this episode of Unholier Than Thou, I sit down with Caitlin, an influential voice in the deconstruction community, for a fascinating conversation about what happens when you begin questioning the beliefs you inherited...and start searching for truth for yourself.

Throughout our conversation, we keep coming back to Plato’s Cave, the ancient metaphor of people who have spent their entire lives watching shadows on a wall and believing those shadows are reality. It raises a powerful question: How much of what we believe is actually true, and how much of it is simply what we were taught to see?

We talk about deconstruction, religious conditioning, fear, identity, spirituality, and the uncomfortable process of figuring out what you actually believe once you give yourself permission to ask the questions you were once afraid...or even forbidden...to ask.

Does questioning your beliefs mean you’ve rejected God? Does deconstruction destroy faith, or can it actually lead you toward a deeper understanding of truth? And once you’ve stepped outside the “cave” and seen your beliefs from a different perspective...can you ever really go back?

Toward the end of our conversation, Caitlin also shares about Mental Hell, the documentary she’s currently working on that explores religious trauma and its psychological impact.
