“In 2026, I surrendered the logistics of my post-documentary project to an AI algorithm. It sent me directly into a war zone. It mapped routes, wrote administrative correspondence, and drafted institutional pitches. My guiding theory was based on a simple truth: As war became mechanized, war reportage mechanized with the analog camera; when it digitized, reportage followed suit; and now, as war becomes automated, the documentation process must mirror that progression. I wrestled with its clinical metrics, but was resolved to follow its every logistical directive, even as it failed time and time again, catastrophically — hallucinating data that left me financially isolated and physically vulnerable on the Ukrainian frontline. My project, THE MACHINE & MEDIUM OF WAR, is not just about a geopolitical front; it is an unassailable archive of biological empathy and resilience under algorithmic siege, struggling to capture the face of human trauma, a project the algorithm itself deemed an ultimate, though necessary, failure. Here is the manifesto of that failure.”
