Cracking open a yuzu sparkling coconut water and diving into the eclectic soul of Grass Maiden's four-track release, Wake Up Live. Grass Maiden, yes, Grass Maiden. I'm about to get into part two in a trilogy series that I'm doing on an artist. Anna is the vocalist and creator of Grass Maiden, and if you remember, I did part one where I listened to and shared a project from two years ago—five songs from an album on YouTube called Live at Norfolk. And now there's one from a year ago that has four songs, and it's called Wake Up Live. This first track here—which I originally caught as ""Khrizzia’s Dreaming" while driving, but is actually titled "Khrizzia’s Dreamy Bells"—wow, this is beautiful. There's two Zs in there, you know, like in Italian with pizza, it sounds like a T-S or T-Z-A. Khrizzia’s Dreamy Bells. Anna is an artist in Virginia Beach, at least that's where I have had the pleasure of meeting her, and she's also part of the group called Community Witch. We listen to a track called "Wake Up," and that sound you heard of me cracking open an aluminum can is a sparkling coconut water with yuzu—which is a wonderful citrus fruit from Asia, spelled Y-U-Z-U. Anna just has quite an eclectic range of styles in the way that she sings, as well as a vocal range that's pretty excellent. I skip the YouTube ads so I don't subject anybody to those, and we get right back on with Grass Maiden. There's a lot of soul in this. It's the kind of stuff I get lofty sitting around for hours listening to. So elegant, simple, right, just piano and voice on the track "Be There." The reason why I am frequently speaking over the songs is because I want you to go and listen to them for yourselves. This session wraps up with a track called "Twirling," and I'm a little disappointed that it's already done because it's definitely much shorter than the first installment.
