  • How Lymph travels to the heart?
    2026/08/09

Welcome to Lymph in Motion with Criselda White, the podcast where we simplify the science of the lymphatic system and connect it to real-life health and recovery.

Today, we’re following one tiny drop of fluid as it transforms into lymph and travels all the way back to the heart. Along the way, we’ll discover how this remarkable system keeps us healthy—and what happens when that journey is interrupted.

    Where Does Lymph Come From?

    Everything starts in the bloodstream.

Your heart pumps blood through arteries into tiny blood vessels called capillaries. These capillaries have very thin walls that allow oxygen, nutrients, hormones, and water to leave the bloodstream and enter the tissues.

Once this fluid leaves the blood vessels, it is no longer called blood plasma.

It is now called interstitial fluid.

Think of interstitial fluid as a nourishing bath surrounding every cell in your body. Every cell depends on this fluid to receive oxygen and nutrients while releasing carbon dioxide and waste products.

Every day, approximately 20 liters of fluid leaves the blood capillaries.

About 17 liters are absorbed back into the bloodstream.

That leaves around 3 liters that cannot return directly to the blood.

This remaining fluid must be collected by another system.

That system is the lymphatic system.

Why Early Lymphatic Massage Can Make a Huge Difference After a Tummy Tuck

Welcome to the Lymph in Motion Podcast. I’m Criselda White, and today we’re talking about one of the most common questions I hear after abdominoplasty, also known as a tummy tuck.

Does lymphatic massage really make a difference?

After treating hundreds of post-operative clients over the years, I’ve noticed a clear pattern in my practice. While every person’s healing journey is unique, the differences between patients who receive early lymphatic massage and those who don’t can be remarkable.
