  • The Jason Arday Story (8-9-26)
    2026/08/10
In April 2020, two weeks into the first lockdown, an assistant professor at Durham sat on a video call with two other academics of colour and described the business he worked in at 1:08:20. He said that when you rise a little, relationships turn transactional, and people deal with you because they want something. He said the biggest disappointment of his career was not any racism he had encountered but the gap between what prominent academics said about equality and what they did. He said academia had become a gig economy, and that you learn very quickly how powerful it is to be able to say things in a particular way, and how large the reputational and fiscal rewards are for saying them well. He said race was big business across every institution in society and that a lot of people were profiting from that plight. He said there comes a point where you cannot keep profiting from something if nothing is changing, and that when it comes you vacate the space. He said anyone can occupy a platform and be antagonistic, and tell white people what they need to do, and that the people doing it should get their own house in order first. He said it is easy to say things and hard to put them into action. He said academia is people telling people how good they are, matched by people telling them how good they are, so that nobody ever engages in honesty. He said many people in the sector are bereft of morals and ethics. He said there is a fine line between doing the best you can and exploiting the narrative. And he said he would be out by forty. His daughter would turn eighteen in five years, and that would be the time to step aside for a generation with new energy, because if you stay too long you either accept the system or it beats you down. Jason Arday turned forty in 2025. That year he was a professor at Cambridge with a memoir contract, a Princeton book, a Sage book series, and a speaking schedule that took him from Oxford colleges to a funeral directors’ convention in New Orleans. https://lukeford.net/blog/?p=199647 Jason Arday: ‘Things Can Only Get Better’, https://lukeford.net/blog/?p=199606 1:08:30 "Here's how I exposed Jason Arday and Cambridge" | David Starkey Talks to Nathan Cofnas, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C27UXFdz0sA 1:10:00 Nathan Cofnas: The Auditor at the Border, https://lukeford.net/blog/?p=184775

  • The Career of Media Strategist David G. Hall
    2026/08/11
Talk Radio Programmer David G. Hall, https://lukeford.net/blog/?p=191799 DavidGHall.com: "There is a crazy amount of messages coming at us all day every day from all sides. Most are trying to sell us something or take something from us. But, mixed in with all the nonsense are voices that inform us, entertain us, keep us company, and help us understand what’s going on in the world, or help us escape. The louder the noise, the more important it is that we understand what a listener wants and cut through the confusion to engage them in honest communication. That’s what we do at every level. From launching national and local radio stations and major podcasts to working with local presenters and niche podcasts, we help you identify your audience, understand them, and then talk to them in such a way that they come back for more, again and again. We’ve been doing this since 1994 with the launch of the first spoken word network to compete with the BBC in the UK. We also started the first ever spoken word radio network in Poland after the fall of communism. We’ve done this on four continents, in five languages, in both music and spoken word formats across all platforms: on air, online, and on demand. Every project is unique. We have no cookie-cutter templates and no formulas. Every client becomes family. When we’re In, we’re in it to win."

  • Rony Guldmann on Hero Systems & Their Competing Claims of Oppression (4-12-26)
    2026/04/12
01:00 Is the "heritage Americans" construct racist? 04:00 Star Chamber of Stanford, https://lukeford.net/blog/?p=181479 11:00 Conservative Claims of Cultural Oppression, https://ronyguldmann.com/conservative-claims-cultural-oppression/ 15:00 Rony Guldmann, https://ronyguldmann.com 18:00 My writings on Rony Guldmann: https://lukeford.net/blog/?cat=42933 22:00 Conservative Claims of Cultural Oppression: On the Nature and Origins of ‘Conservaphobia’, https://lukeford.net/blog/?p=181477 Guldmann’s counter-narrative is itself a carrier group performance within that order, and that the repair he is attempting requires not just exposing the mechanism of enforcement but constructing a counter-narrative compelling enough to compete with the existing trauma narrative for the formation’s symbolic allegiance. That is a much harder task than philosophical argument, however sophisticated, can accomplish, because it requires the kind of sustained symbolic work across institutional arenas, aesthetic, legal, media, academic, that Alexander identifies as the condition of civil repair. Guldmann’s memoir is one carrier group performance within that larger project. Whether it contributes to repair or simply adds to the symbolic competition between rival trauma narratives without resolving it is the question that Alexander’s framework poses and that neither Guldmann nor his antagonists can answer from inside the symbolic order they both inhabit.
