This one is a personal share—a little science, a little spirituality, and a lot of awe.
As my daughter's seventh birthday approaches, I've been thinking about the strange and beautiful physical thread connecting her to me, me to my mother, my mother to my grandmother, and all of us to the generations of bodies that came before.
In this episode, I'm sharing my own spiritual relationship with menstruation, moon blood, ancestry, and the cyclical experience of moving through creation, expression, release, death, and rebirth again and again. And woven through that spiritual reflection is some pretty mind-blowing reproductive and DNA science: the oocytes we carry developing while we're still inside our mothers, three generations physically nested together during pregnancy, and the mitochondrial DNA passed down through the maternal line.
For me, science doesn't take the magic out of any of this. It makes it more magical.
This isn't about telling you what menstruation should mean to you or asking you to share my beliefs. It's an invitation to consider your own relationship with your body, your blood, your ancestry, and the sheer weird wonder of being alive.
What might change if we stopped relating to our bodies only as things to manage, correct, beautify, or judge—and allowed ourselves to experience them with awe?
