    Welcome to the Love Sweetie Podcast! In this episode, we review six pieces of correspondence from three individuals - Sweetie, her father, Chester Demaree, M.D., and her mother, Laura Shuler Demaree. The first letter from Chester is from October 1952, and the rest of the documents are from November 1952. We get a last note from Chester about some of his trip with his wife to visit Sweetie in Pennsylvania, and then all parties prepare for the holiday season in 1952. In this episode, we learn what happened for Sweetie and her family on Thanksgiving Day - notably, she and her family had dinner at Naval Air Station (NAS) Willow Grove that year.

  • Episode 122 "On the Outside Looking In"

    Welcome to the Love Sweetie Podcast! In this episode, we review three pieces of correspondence that Sweetie wrote in October and November 1952. Sweetie's parents continue their visit with her daughter and her family in Doylestown, and in this episode, we learn that they visited Valley Forge National Park. However, by the end of the episode Sweetie's parents leave to return home to Iowa, leaving Sweetie feeling lonesome right before the holidays of 1952.

    We also discuss the presidential election of 1952 in which Eisenhower was elected president, winning against Adlai Stevenson.

    Welcome to the Love Sweetie Podcast! In this episode, we review three pieces of correspondence that Sweetie and her father, Chester Demaree, M.D., wrote in October 1952. Sweetie's parents finally arrive in Doylestown to visit their daughter after such a long delay, and they both describe what happens during the first couple of weeks that they spend together. The family travels to Philadelphia and to New York City, and they describe some of the sights as tourists during the 1950's.

    We also discuss their visit to see the residence of Henry Chapman Mercer, Fonthill Castle, in Doylestown, and we discuss the possibilities of the Darst family's connection to Mercer.

Sweetie's son, Lewis, started the second grade at the Doylestown Public School that fall, and Sweetie is eagerly anticipating the arrival of her parents from Iowa, but doesn't know yet when they might plan to visit. Meanwhile, the curmudgeonly Miss Darst has plans of her own to go out and see other people in town, and, as Sweetie recounts, creates a fire hazard in the house that Sweetie has to handle.
