Abraham, Joseph, David, and Paul all had promises from God, but they also went through years of hardship, suffering, and seasons where it looked like the promise would never happen.

But they didn’t wait until their situation changed to declare God’s goodness — they spoke in faith while they were still in the middle of the struggle.

I grew up in church but hated everything about it. I felt like my relationship with God was based on fear, rules, and trying to be perfect — and it pushed me away from God instead of toward Him.

This is the introduction episode to my book Gamblin’ With God.

This story begins when I was 14 years old and made a deal with God. I told Him that if He would heal me, I would believe in Him — and when that didn’t happen, I chose to live like He didn’t exist.

Over the next four years, my life spiraled into depression, suicidal thoughts, and drug addiction.

But when I was 18 years old and ready to end my life, everything changed after one prayer on September 14, 2005.

This is the beginning of my story — and the beginning of Gamblin’ With God.
