Long Odds is an anthology about crossing blind.
A small, underfunded, secret federal program has found a way into other universes. Nobody can choose the destination, only roughly how different it will be from ours. Teams go in with a case, a cover story, and a budget that cannot survive too many empty-handed trips, hoping to bring home something that helps: a medicine another world bet on, an engine we never built, a road not taken. Getting back to a world they have already visited works about one time in ten.
Every episode is a complete story with its own ending, in the spirit of X Minus One and The Twilight Zone, but not sad all the time. Underneath, slow currents move: relationships grow, people lose patience with each other and with the program, and some of them think it will end badly. Some crossings are wondrous, some are funny, some are quiet, and some go wrong. Episodes where the team does real harm to the world it visited open with a spoken warning.
You can start anywhere. If you keep listening, you will notice more.
Early episodes are single-narrator readings; later episodes are full audio productions with a cast, music, and sound. All voices are synthetic.
Not every crossing goes well.
