The Buffalo Sabres have now won 13 of their last 14 games following their win against the Ducks. The building was packed, loud, and the Sabres gave the fans a lot to cheer about. Jack Quinn leads the way with two goals, the opening goal, and the game-winning goal. Sneaky Joe was impressed all the way around by the Sabres effort. Skating, hits, defense, fights, goals... but only for 55 minutes. The Sabres yet again, almost collapsed with three goals allowed in the final minutes. Lindy Ruff was clearly upset about the effort late in his postgame comments. Is the Sabres late game problem something that is going to stick with them and cost them games?

The common thread in the last three games in third periods seems to be the Sabres backing off and not pressuring the way they do in the first two periods.

Against the Rangers, Samuelsson had another incredible game, shutting plays down defensively, setting up Josh Doan to open the scoring, and firing a laser shorthanded to close the game, getting the win for the Sabres. Samuelsson's season continues to be dumbfounding, with some stats showing him being one of the five most valuable players in the entire NHL. Jarmo Kekäläinen's first monster move as GM of the Columbus Blue Jackets was to acquire Artemi Panarin in a trade. Will history repeat itself? There is reason to believe the New York Rangers would be open to moving their best player, who's contract expires at the end of the season. Could Jarmo and the Buffalo Sabres swoop in for Panarin? There are lots of things that make a trade difficult, including Panarin likely being a rental for the Sabres, his age, his salary, and a very high trade cost. Sneaky Joe presents pick + prospect trade ideas, but also the possibility of an Alex Tuch for Artemi Panarin swap. Even if it's only for three months, Panarin could be the key to ending the playoff drought, and even maybe having playoff success this season.

Plus, what the Sabres have in front of them in a matchup at Madison Square Garden against the Rangers, who are without both Igor Shesterkin and Adam Fox for this game. The Rangers do not have much else that should scare the Sabres without those two. However, Colten Ellis starting for the Sabres in goal presents an element of unknown to the matchup.

The Buffalo Sabres built up a huge 4-0 lead over the lowly Vancouver Canucks and with just ten minutes to go, but still managed to let them back in the game, in part due to a baaad goal given up by Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. Was it a good game from UPL? Sneaky Joe argues that the third goal he gives up is more evidence that he can never fully be trusted, even within a game where he was otherwise awesome. Bo Byram's amazing stretch of play continued with two more assists. Lindy Ruff deserves credit for allowing Byram and all his defensemen license to play free and aggressive. It's clearly working with Byram.

The Buffalo Sabres have three players that are headed to the Olympics in Milan! Tage Thompson, after putting in years of effort becoming a great hockey player and showing out at the World Championships, makes Team USA for the Olympics. Sneaky Joe sees Tage playing wing in the middle-six of the lineup, and likely the team's second powerplay unit.

Rasmus Dahlin will play a big role for Sweden, but how big of a role? Joe points back to the 4-Nations tournament, where the Swedes didn't know what they had in Dahlin, and didn't use him nearly enough. With Mattias Ekholm staying home this go round, will Dahlin be trusted more in big spots?

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen will represent Finland, but he might not just be sitting on the bench. With back-to-back underpar seasons for Juuse Saros, there is a real chance if UPL gets hot over the next month, that he could start the tournament in goal for Finland.
