The Penguins will play two bona fide Stanley Cup contenders this weekend when they head to Colorado and then Vegas. Hunter and Patrick begin the Friday edition of the Locked On Penguins Podcast by discussing Friday night's matchup in Denver against the red-hot Colorado Avalanche. While the Avs are one of the top-scoring teams in the NHL, they haven't been great at goal prevention, so does that provide the Penguins an opening? (0:00) Then, for all their troubles on Friday, the Penguins will head to Vegas to take on the defending Western Conference champs, who are the top-scoring team in the NHL, and don't appear to have very many weaknesses. (11:49) Finally, it's another Fan Take Friday; they talk about your predictions of who is poised to have a breakout over the next couple of weeks, some line combinations, and how the Penguins could possibly trade for a young defenseman. The Penguins dropped a snoozer of a preseason game, but that is immaterial because now the time is running out for some players to make the team. Patrick and Hunter begin the Friday edition of the Locked On Penguins Podcast by recapping the absolute snoozefest of a preseason game against the Blue Jackets. While the game itself was tough, there were a couple of standouts, including a line of forwards who are making a case to be on the opening night roster. (0:00) Then, between injuries and the tragic loss of Andrei Kuzmenko's father, the Penguins suddenly have a few open spots at forward, with cuts already being made. Who will make the roster? (13:18) Finally, Saturday afternoon's preseason finale in Buffalo is shaping up to be a dress rehearsal for the regular season; they break down the roster and get you set for the last game before it matters for real.
