The New York Mets missed a chance early in the game to break things open against the Cleveland Guardians, and fell in the second game of the series 3-2.

In the 2nd inning, the Mets had a golden chance. The bases were loaded, with only one out. Francisco Lindor stepped to the plate with the Mets already leading 2-0. It was the chance to break the game open, and get the Mets back into the win column. Instead, it was a double play by the Guardians and that was all we would hear from the Mets bats.

Clay Holmes pitched well, and gave the Mets the quality they've been searching for. Despite it being only five innings, he left with the game tied.

Tyler Rogers was the pitcher on the wrong side, give up a run on three hits in his inning of work.

The Mets will search hard and try to salvage something in the finale of the series tomorrow afternoon with David Peterson on the mound.

The New York Mets erased a five-run deficit to force the game into extras, but a defensive miscue allowed the Guardians to plate two runs without a hit, and the Mets fell 7-6.

Sean Manaea got the start and through the first five innings, it looked like vintage Sean Manaea. The sixth inning however saw a blow up from Manaea, giving the Guardians a five spot.

The Mets offense had a quick response. After a pair of miscues defensively by the Guardians, Pete Alonso slugged career home run number 251 to get the Mets on the board.

In the 8th inning, it was the top of the lineup getting the job done. Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto got things started with singles, and it Alonso along with Mark Vientos that plated the runs to tie the game.

A golden chance in the 9th for New York, saw them load up the bases but were unable to get the winning run across.

The 10th saw a defensive miscue from Brett Baty give the Guardians back the lead and then a sac-fly added on the insurance run.

An emotional roller-coaster, the Mets will need to quickly bounce back tomorrow with Clay Holmes on the bump.

The New York Mets have a pair of problems going for them right now, and both were on display in Sunday afternoon's series finale loss to the San Francisco Giants.

Problem one for the Mets is their offense. It's been too streaky, and while yesterday's twelve run outburst gave many hope that they've kick-started things, it was back to their old ways today.
