Welcome to the Livin the Sermon Podcast, where we have authentic conversations about impactful subjects. Join us as we delve into topics that resonate with us, or perhaps, should. With Jesus as our cornerstone and the Sermon on the Mount as our focal point, our aim is to share stories that exemplify God's love and power, alongside providing practical steps to follow the Way of Jesus. Through our discussions, our hope is that we all may integrate Christ's ways into our everyday lives, applying his wisdom and principles to guide our lives, our actions, our decisions, our words and even our thoughts.

  • "He Gets Us", Holiness & Apathy | Josh Sullivan #8
    2024/04/08

In this week's episode, we have Josh Sullivan on to talk about the "He Gets Us" commercial in contrast to Holiness. Josh has been a pastor for 20+ years and recently stepped out of a pastoral role for a season of rest. Out of obedience, Josh has stepped into rest and renewal still on fire for the Lord. In most circumstances, when a pastor leaves, it gets ugly, but that wasn't the case here. (Shame on you for coming here for the tea on Josh's exit...haha)

Josh begins by telling us his story and his recent departure from vocational ministry. He talks about how painful the transition was because of his love for his people but he highlights how God is calling him to live out the Great Commission even more so now. Then we pivot to talk about the 'He Gets Us" commercial and that something is a bit off with it. Sure, Jesus gets us and loves us where we are, but he CALLS us higher. He calls us to repent and turn from our sinful nature. He is the one who died for us to be reunited to Him after all, right?

We finish talking about a number of things: Holiness, Apathy, Faith, etc. Josh is so wise and there are so many good moments in this episode. Josh exudes humility in ways I only hope to. My wife and I are so grateful for Josh and his family. Find you a pastor like Josh to keep in your corner and to be able to go to when the going gets tough or when you need to celebrate something.

  • Football as an Idol & a Honduras Mission Trip Recap | Brady Wiggins #7
    2024/04/01

In this episode, our guest is Brady Wiggins. Brady is a current student at City Hope College, in route to be a Pastor. He played football for The University of South Alabama Jags. At USA, Brady was fulfilling a childhood dream of playing under the lights, until...a neck injury changed the trajectory of his life.

After the doctors told Brady football may not be best for him anymore, he went into a spiral of turning his back on God and leaning on drugs and alcohol to cope with loss of his dreams to play football. After moving back into his parent's home, Brady found himself at his lowest point, depressed and ready to throw in the towel. In dire need for answers as to why his love was stripped from him, he cried out to God. He was tired of how life was, he wanted God to answer. HE DID! Brady met his Maker, and He encapsulated him with love and provoked him toward humility. Brady, as many would agree, displays humility so well now.

In the second half of the podcast, we talk about his most recent mission trip to Honduras. He highlights the awe and reverence the people there have for the Lord. Worship hits different when "All the Earth Shouts His Praise." We talk about worship and the Lord placing people on our minds to meet and share God's love to. He also speaks on how God wants to speak to you just as He did with himself. God doesn't show favoritism. "Call on the Lord," Brady says, "and He will answer!"

  • Forgiveness & A Random Act of Violence | Ernie Spiller #6
    2024/03/25

In this episode, Ernie Spiller tells us about the day everything changed. Ernie was shot in a random act of violence 8 years ago. He was shot in the shoulder and was chased around a gas station for no reason. Dodging bullets and trying to figure out what was even happening, he prayed. God heard his prayer and gave him a peace that surpasses all understanding.

In the second half of this episode, Ernie and I talk about the emotional toll trying to reconcile this evil act. We land the podcast with forgiveness. How can one forgive someone for such a terribly evil crime? And for no reason? Ernie tells us the way and it's simple..."Christ forgave us, so why can't I forgive him?"

PLEASE, send over your prayer requests! We want to be lifting any situation dear to you up and want to intercede for you if we need to be!
