Why would anyone support Trump? Because he acted all-knowing. We didn’t have to think. We could rely on HIM. It’s not just Trump. It’s whoever or whatever we have made god. And our god might have been “God” or a parent, friend, romantic partner, author, religious leader, political party, spiritual or cultural community, or an inanimate object or value, such as money, power or success. Whatever we have made “god” has to remain bigger than life, and in order to keep our “god” big, we have had to make ourselves and/or others small. I realized something yesterday. Because of chronic illness and weakness, I don’t trust my body. And because, despite ongoing pain and fatigue, I tended to keep going, my body doesn’t trust me either. Spiritual Power is not the same as religion, which is a collection of beliefs and practices. Instead, spiritual power is the inner strength derived from connecting to something greater than ourselves, and it is in direct conflict with the ego. The ego looks for power over people, circumstances, and reality. Spiritual power seeks virtue, compassion, and transcendence. It couldn’t be more different.
