  • You Try to Explain It to Your Spouse. They Listen. They Don't Really Get It.
    2026/09/02

Get in Touch! Send us a message.

Thursday afternoon. You just got off a call with your accountant. Sales are down. A vendor sent a price increase letter this morning — effective immediately, no negotiation window. A rep is coming in tomorrow and you're not sure what he's bringing from the field.

You go home and try to explain it to your spouse. They listen. They're supportive. But you can see in their eyes they're following the words without feeling the weight. "I'm sure it'll turn around," they say.

You try a version of it with a friend at dinner. He listens, then says: "Man, I wish I could make my own hours like you do."

You take a sip of your drink and change the subject.

The decisions you're making — when to expand, when to cut, how to handle a vendor relationship turning adversarial, what to do with a salesperson who's underperforming — require context that almost no one in your personal life has. So you make them alone. You carry the weight alone. And over time, isolation becomes the default setting.

Meanwhile, the dealer running a showroom a thousand miles away at a similar revenue level? They're not your competition. They're your peer group. And some of them solved last quarter's problem two years ago.

In this episode, we talk about the peer call — the thirty-minute monthly conversation that turns isolation into a resource.

    What you'll hear:

    • Why the people who love you can offer support but not the specific understanding that comes from having made the same calls
    • How to find a peer who isn't your competition and why most of them are waiting for the same conversation
    • The AI prompt that turns a peer call transcript into an accountability document instead of just a venting session

  • There's a Room Full of Design Students Who Want to Work for You. Most Owners Never Call.
    2026/08/26

Get in Touch! Send us a message.

New stain and finish samples are exciting. The three hours you spent Tuesday reorganizing the sample library to fit them in is not.

You've done the math on what your time is worth. Well, you did a while back — then stopped, because it was kind of depressing.

Three hours of your week went to pulling discontinued samples, refiling, relabeling. Work that any organized person with a label maker and three free hours could have done. The reason it was you: explaining it to someone else felt like it would take longer than just doing it yourself.

Twenty minutes away, at your local design or trade program, there's a room full of students who know SketchUp, understand CAD, and are actively looking for industry experience they can't get in a classroom. Most business owners assume they'd take more managing than they're worth. So they don't call.

An intern without structure is just another person to manage. An intern with a clear, contained task and the right tools is something else entirely.

In this episode, we walk through The Scribe — the one starting role that makes an intern immediately useful and teaches them your entire business in the process.

    What you'll hear:

    • Why the tasks that eat your week feel undelegatable — and why that's almost never actually true
    • How transcript review becomes the fastest onboarding program your business has ever run
    • What you have at the end of six months that you didn't have at the beginning

  • The Perfect Hire Doesn't Exist. Here's Who to Hire Instead.
    2026/08/19

Get in Touch! Send us a message.

Six months. A folder on your desktop called "Candidates" with 41 resumes in it. Eight interviews. Two hires — one left after three weeks, the other is still here technically, but you both know it's not working.

The role is well-defined: someone who can run your design software, understands construction tolerances, has a natural feel for sales, and isn't expecting to get paid like a celebrity chef.

You're starting to think this person doesn't exist.

Here's the real talk: you're not looking for an employee. You're looking for a copy of yourself, twenty years younger, ready to work for a salary. That person isn't on any job board.

The technical knowledge you're requiring as a prerequisite took you years to accumulate in a specific context with specific experiences. Nobody walks in with it. So you filter out everyone who needs training — and keep covering the gap yourself. Every week the seat stays empty is another week of work that shouldn't be yours.

In this episode, we talk about what changes when you stop hiring for the skills you can teach and start hiring for the character that can't be learned — and how the recording system bridges the gap while they build the experience to close it themselves.

    What you'll hear:

    • Why the unicorn job description is filtering out exactly the people who could actually do the job
    • What to screen for instead — and what the best interview question reveals
    • How the recording system becomes an accuracy net for new hires during the learning phase
