Dr. K was only 19 years old when she was diagnosed with fibroids.
After years of painful, heavy periods, she finally had an explanation, but that diagnosis would become the beginning of a journey spanning more than two decades, multiple surgeries and procedures, and both physical and emotional challenges.
Today, Dr. Taneya “Dr. K” Kizine is a pharmacist, functional wellness practitioner and founder of Spot Me Inc., a nonprofit working to combat period poverty and support women and girls.
In this episode of Leverage YOU, Dr. K opens up about what living with fibroids has really looked like—from carrying extra clothes and menstrual products because of the fear of an accident to learning how important it is to speak up when you know something isn't right.
She also shares the encounter with a young woman in a church bathroom that ultimately inspired Spot Me. Her own experience with heavy periods shapes everything from the products she puts in each Spot Me bag to the dignity she wants every woman receiving one to feel. Pasted text
