A field is sown with good seed — but while everyone sleeps, an enemy scatters weeds among the wheat. The servants want to tear them out at once. The Master says something we do not expect: let both grow together until the harvest.

In this sermon — the fourth in our summer series Now and Not Yet: A Summer in Matthew — Fr. Devin Hunt preaches from Jesus' parable of the wheat and the weeds. Along the way:

  • Why the field is the world — not the church — and how that one correction takes the sorting of the world out of our hands
  • The patience of God that looks, to us, like delay, and is in truth mercy
  • How the wicked can seem to prosper while a King is truly reigning
  • What it means to lay down our judgments, forgive those we've written off, and trust the Sower with a harvest that is sure

A word for anyone who feels small, outnumbered, or overlooked in their faith: your obscurity is not your final identity. The One who sowed you will surely gather you.
