Welcome to our Viniyoga podcast where we explore yoga philosophy, yoga therapy, and yoga beyond physical postures. This episode with Chase Bossart, long-time student of Mr. Desikachar, focuses on breath centered yoga. Yoga philosophy gives us the pathway to influence our mood, or our state, into balance. The more out of balance we are, the more affected we are by the goings-on of life. This is true for our breath, too. The length of one's breathing is a manifestation of their state. This can work both ways. If you want to change your state, you are also talking about changing your metobolic rate, your emotions, your stability in your physicality, they all depend on each other. He addresses the concepts of: finding the rhythm that illustrates the state you are in, adjusting one element at a time, and maintaining a rhythm tham allows for a state change. As breathing is increasingly recognized as an important part of human physiology by western therapeutics, Chase Bossart, Yoga Well's Executive Director, clarifies the foundational physiological understanding of yoga and how this relates to prāṇāyāma practices including concepts, applications, and tools in our upcoming program, Advanced Viniyoga Applications: Prāṇāyāma - Breathing in Viniyoga.
