In this episode, I sit down with Rachel, a fellow photographer, mom to two girls, and an animal lover who enjoys thrifting for antiques and fashion. Rachel shares a childhood photo from her grandparents’ farm that unfolds into conversations around legacy, traditions, and the beauty of intentional living.
Hi, my name is Laura Richards, and I’m the host of That One Photo, the home of heartfelt conversations with everyday people about their most treasured family photos.
I’m a family and newborn photographer in Charlottesville, Virginia. This is my 10th year in business. I photograph families on film, and to me, film is the beating heart of sincere family imagery. It helps create more meaning, show up to sessions with more intentionality, and just gives my clients a little bit of nostalgia when they see their photos, knowing that their family photos in 2026 were created on the same format as they were in 1996 during their own childhood.
I also have a background in journalism, so this project really feels like going back to my roots. I have talked to people about everything from homelessness and immigration to beards and wine.
