- Dawn Rogers was 26 years old and served as county clerk to Commissioner Arthur Peel since spring 1885.
- On December (1886) Dawn wrote the margin note "disputed - see registry" beside three parcels, blocking a land sale scheduled for January.
- Beaumont Rye sent a letter on December 28, 1886 stating "the clerk situation will need handling before the January session."
- Gary Murphy, 44-year-old land broker for the Consolidated Grazing Trust, visited the office January 4 and left with the commissioner's seal stamp.
- Sherry Johnson found 17 entries altered in the duplicate ledger, with the replacement ink slightly bluer and four eastern parcels re-registered to the Consolidated Grazing Trust.
