This Sunday, we will take a look at another of the parables of Jesus. The day after entering Jerusalem on a donkey to shouts of “hosanna,” and turning over the money changers’ tables in the temple, Jesus returned to the temple to teach. The chief priests and elders, the political leaders of the day, challenged his authority to teach. Jesus turned their question back on them, and they could not answer.

Jesus then told a simple parable, of a man who instructed his two sons to go work in the vineyard. One agreed, but never showed up. The other said no, but then repented and did the work. It’s a powerful reminder that being a follower of Jesus brings with it the responsibility to act, and that our words without actions mean nothing. We will explore words and actions in worship this Sunday. Hope you’ll join us, in person or online!

This Sunday is World Communion Sunday. It’s a time when Christian churches and communities around the world celebrate global unity by gathering together for a celebration of communion. We will celebrate our connection with Christians around the world with word, prayer, song, and scripture read in multiple languages. We will take communion by coming forward and choosing from different types of breads. In all of this, we will celebrate our common humanity and our common faith in the risen Christ. Hope you’ll join us, in person or online!

This Sunday we turn to one of Jesus’ most vivid parables, the wedding banquet in Matthew 22:1–14, and explore a theme at the very heart of the gospel: Election by Grace. Matthew’s telling of this story is sharper and more urgent than the versions found in the other Gospels. His details remind us that God’s invitation to the banquet is wide, generous, and extended to all, “both good and bad.” Yet Matthew also adds a striking image found nowhere else: a wedding garment that symbolizes the life shaped by love.

This week, we’ll reflect on what it means to “put on” the robe Christ offers — the robe of compassion, mercy, and love that binds everything together in perfect harmony. Jesus suggests that fruitfulness is not something we achieve on our own; it is something we wear, something grace places upon us as it settles into the heart. And ultimately, we remember that God alone judges our standing and that of our neighbor. Our call is simply to respond to the invitation and clothe ourselves in love.

We hope you’ll join us this Sunday as we listen again to Jesus’ invitation, consider the garment he offers, and celebrate the grace that gathers us all to the table.
