  • The Sound of Falling Episode Featuring Editor Evelyn Rack: Embracing the Radical Subjective
    2026/02/09

Join your hosts, Heather Elaine Abbott and Zoey Danielson, as they descend into the quiet, aching atmosphere of the German film Sound of Falling. They’re joined by the film’s editor, Evelyn Rack, whose delicate, emotionally attuned approach to shaping the rhythm of the movie was essential in bringing the story’s inner world to the screen.

Sound of Falling traces the fragile lives of its female leads, connected by one farm house, as moments of silence, distance, and connection ripple through time. With a patient eye and a sensitivity to absence as much as presence, the film meditates on memory and the subtle ways people reach for one another across emotional divides.

From sculpting the film’s quiet pacing to honoring the power of stillness within each frame, Evelyn’s editorial voice helps transform quiet gestures into profound emotional resonance. Her work reveals how meaning can emerge not only from what is shown, but from what is carefully left unsaid.

  • S4E18 - Caity Birmingham - Sorry, Baby - The Solarium in the Tiny Cottage: Reflections on the Power of Connection
    2025/12/22

Join your hosts, Heather Elaine Abbott and Zoey Danielson, as they are whisked away to a small New England town to explore the backdrops of one of the best indie films of 2025, Sorry, Baby. They're joined by the film's intrepid Production Designer, Caity Birmingham, whose process over product approach to creative problem solving on set was integral to creating the world of the film.

Sorry, Baby follows Agnes' stumbling path towards healing after a bad thing happened to them in grad school. Told through a series of vignettes across a four-year time span, the film offers meditations on trauma, participation in patriarchal systems, the importance of connection, and how one good sandwich can turn things around.

From scouting locations that made the 'oner' sequence logistically possible to papering a small cottage with the texture of occupants past & present, Caity's keen eye for detail and commitment to creating 360 degree spaces on set brought so much life to Eva Victor's debut feature film.

You can follow Caity Birmingham on instagram at @playcait. Her website is caitybirmingham.com.

This episode is the finale of the fourth season of the show. Thank you to everyone who has listened this year! Don't fret though, film nerds! We will be back in the new year with a bonus episode all about our favorite movies of 2025. Until then... Happy Holidays, Film Nerds!
