    It's the biggest sporting event in the world, as every four years the FIFA World Cup is held in Soccer.

    Rob and T.J. are long time friends from the 1990's in the Tampa Bay market and his love of Soccer was apparent then, as he shared great stories from early in his career.

    Host T.J. Rives returns with guest Nick Couzin of Roundtable Sports to give their insight and takes.

    Nick is just off covering the "Cracker Barrel 400" NASCAR race in Nashville and talks about the experience and the differences for the media than other sports.

    Then, there's talk of the NBA Finals and coverage by ABC of the Knicks and the Spurs. The guys also go over the main announce team of Mike Breen, Richard Jefferson and Tim Legler. And, they also give their "thumbs up" to the Inside the NBA imported pregame, halftime and post game show adding to their broadcasts.

    There's also discussion on the Big 12 controversy with Texas Tech allowing QB Brendan Sorsby to go to Lubbock court to keep him eligible despite admitting to betting 10s of thousands of dollars on college football and his own team. The other Big 12 schools and even, some out of conference are threatening to not play them. What about the media coverage and pressure on this and will it make Texas Tech change their mind?

    He also has thoughts on CBS destroying it's "Late Show" brand and whether 60 minutes should be pre-empted for the biggest sports events on Sunday evenings?

    Then, there's more on the chase for "Lord Stanley's Cup" in hockey with Vegas and Carolina (not exactly major media market help) battling and the broadcasters, etc.

    The NBA Finals start up with San Antonio and the NY Knicks and the #1 media market appearing in the championship series for the first time since 1999 (when they played the Spurs, also).     The "bump" in TV audience for the start of the Oklahoma City Thunder/San Antonio Spurs NBA playoff series on NBC network TV. What does it really mean and how does it historicially compare? Plus, the NY Knicks are waiting for their first Finals appearance in almost 30 years. That will help the interest/audience, too. We go over it all.

    And, the National Sports Emmy Awards were handed out in NYC Tuesday night. T.J. goes over some of the winners and his opinions on them.

    Then, we shift and talk some tremendous insight on calling major college baseball, as the voice of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets from the ACC joins the pod, Colin Lacy. Colin gives great insight on his role, how his career has progressed and what it was like to broadcast the ACC championship win over North Carolina last weekend. Now, the Jackets host the first round of the NCAA tournament in Atlanta and how does he prepare for all three teams, besides his, coming to play in the double elimination bracket?

    Colin and T.J. also reminisce about growing up watch Atlanta Braves MLB games on TBS calbe night after night in the 1980s and through the mid 90s and the great announcers that called the games for the Braves.

    The guys also discuss legendary coach Bill Belichick trying to do some image rehab with interviews in the off season after his dismal year in college football at the University of North Carolina. Will it help, especially, when many in the media and pundant world want to pay him back for being anti-media as a coach.

    They also discuss the proposed new 24 team College Football Playoff and how things have escalated so quickly from 4 teams two years ago to making the playoff turn into the only thing that matters.

  • Tribute To Yankees Broadcasting Legend John Sterling | LWOS Media Podcast

    It's a sad week in New York and specificially for Yankees baseball fans, as John Sterling has passed away Monday at 87 years old having broadcasted all the massive moments for the MLB franchise over a 36 year career.

    Awful Announcing's Ken Fang jumped on with T.J. Rives to reminisce about the tremendous career of Sterling, who worked an astounding 5,200 Yankees games on radio in a row. Plus, he was on the mic with his partner Michael Kay for every big moment of the Yankees dyansty from 1996-2001, as they played in the World Series 5 times and won four of them.

    The guys also go back to Sterling's rise doing minor league sports and games in New York in the 1970s that led him to famously doing the Atlanta Braves baseball and Atlanta Hawks basketballl on TBS cable in the 1980s and then, eventually, back to New York and the Yankees.

    The guys also tell personal stories of interacting with Sterling and his legendary kindness to others in the business, young broadcasters, etc.
