The Chargers, despite a shaky Week 1 loss, are still favored by six and a half points against the resilient Raiders — but don’t expect a blowout. The Raiders’ smart coaching, physical play, and versatile back Ashton Jeanty make them dangerous, while the Chargers’ defense is the real story — strong enough to win, but not quite dominant enough to cover the spread. Expect a gritty, low-scoring battle where the Chargers pull it out, but the margin? Probably closer than the odds suggest.

The Raiders exploded for 27 points in their home opener, their highest output in that game since 2021—thanks largely to Klint Kubiak’s bold play-calling. He leaned into “21 personnel,” deploying two running backs 36% of the time to confuse defenses and create mismatches. From Jeanty and Washington together to Laube motioning out for a one-on-one touchdown, Kubiak’s creativity kept opponents off balance. Even lining Jeanty up at fullback led to big plays. This fresh, unpredictable approach didn’t just work—it set the tone for what could be a season of constant surprises.

The Chargers are treating the Raiders as a serious threat in Week Two, with coaches and players acknowledging their elite talent across the board. From Justin Herbert’s call for peak performance to Jim Harbaugh’s praise for the Raiders’ depth, every corner of the team is focused. Defensive coordinator Chris O’Leary highlights Ashton Jeanty’s explosive growth and Kirk Cousins’ veteran savvy, while Derwin James Jr. warns about tackling Jeanty and countering Cousins’ experience. Even offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel calls Maxx Crosby an “upper echelon” game-wrecker, and special teams coordinator Ryan Ficken respects the Raiders’ aggressive unit. This isn’t just another game—it’s a full-court press against a loaded, well-coached opponent.
