First published in 1914, King of Alsander is the sole novel by James Elroy Flecker, a celebrated poet, scholar, linguist, and diplomat. This enchanting tale is a vibrant tapestry woven with Fleckers passion for learning, language, and travel, alongside his sharp satirical commentary on politics. As the author himself puts it, this is a story filled with romance and wonder—an extraordinary adventure featuring madmen, kings, scholars, merchants, consuls, and a cast of unforgettable characters, including two heroines of breathtaking beauty. Set against the backdrop of a sun-soaked landscape, the narrative unfolds with disguises, mysteries, conspiracies, and thrilling escapades, brimming with love, absurdity, and even a touch of violence. It’s a delightfully improbable tale that captures the joy of life itself. - Summary by Algy PugCopyright Plays and Dramas 戯曲・演劇 政治・政府 政治学
