We spend a lot of time teaching our kids how to survive hurt feelings, complicated friendships and middle school drama. Don’t assume the worst. Don’t let someone else’s behavior change who you are. Give people grace. Tell the truth. Forgive. Stay kind.

And then Steph had an uncomfortable realization: maybe she needs to start taking some of her own advice.

This week, we’re talking about how life experience can make us wiser, but if we aren’t careful, it can also make us harder. We get hurt and suddenly we’re in full investigation mode, replaying conversations, gathering evidence and building a case when what we really need might be forgiveness.

So how do we pursue truth without becoming consumed by proving our version of it? How do we have boundaries without bitterness? How do we recognize hard realities and still keep soft hearts?

Plus, please disregard all our talk about video this week. Because naturally, the very week we talked about it, we had technical difficulties.

Season 3 is here, and apparently we thought the best way to reintroduce ourselves was to cover everything from parenting fails and shapewear malfunctions to spiritual abuse, wedding planning and a heartfelt thank you.

We’re kicking off a new season of Kinda Preachy with a new tagline: Faith, Friendship & a Little Oversharing. We talk about who we are, what this podcast has become and why we believe there’s room to take our faith seriously without taking ourselves seriously all the time.

First, we confess the times our kids told us they were injured and we were absolutely convinced they were being dramatic. Spoiler: sometimes they weren’t. Then we move on to the dangers of shapewear, because apparently getting dressed for a nice event now comes with the very real possibility of busting open like a can of biscuits.

Things take a more serious turn as we discuss Netflix’s The Death of a Pastor’s Wife and the story of Mica Miller. We talk about spiritual manipulation, the misuse of submission, the responsibility of church leadership, the value and protection of women within the church and why Scripture should never be weaponized to keep someone in an abusive situation.

Finally, we catch up on life, family and wedding planning before taking a minute to thank YOU. Whether you’ve been listening since the beginning or you’re brand new here, we’re incredibly grateful that you choose to spend part of your week with us.

We came in with no plan. No run of show. No carefully thought out topic. Just two microphones and the confidence that surely we could find something to talk about.

Fifty minutes later…apparently that was never going to be a problem.

For our Season 2 summer finale, we’re doing what we do best: catching up, oversharing and somehow turning completely normal life updates into stories we probably shouldn’t tell on a podcast.

We’re talking about the 90s movies our parents casually let us watch that would NEVER pass today’s parental guidance standards, plus an update on Steph’s fast paced journey toward becoming Mother of the Bride. That includes dress shopping and the very important midlife question no one prepares you for: exactly what level of matronly are we supposed to be aiming for here? Are we covering everything up because we’re respectable women of a certain age? Or are we going full hottie with a body? There has to be a middle ground.

We also have some life and kid updates, including Steph’s son officially entering the plumbing world and quickly discovering that people will apparently flush just about ANYTHING down a toilet. And when one of those stories gets set to disco music? Just trust us. You need to hear it.

Then there’s the swimsuit.

Steph thought she was having a real “getting my groove back” moment until photographic evidence revealed that she may have developed a condition we are officially diagnosing as boob blindness.

We cannot explain it here. We will not explain it here. You simply have to listen.

Somewhere between disco plumbing and boob blindness, we also manage to look ahead to Season 3 and share a little about what’s coming this fall, including new conversations, new guests and plenty more of whatever this is.

It’s one last summer overshare before we close the book on Season 2.
