  • Flying With Kids Part 3: Entertainment, Baby Carriers & Landing Day Tips
    2026/09/01

Somehow one episode about flying with kids turned into three - because once you start travelling regularly with children, you quickly realise there’s a lot more to talk about than snacks and sleep.

In the final part of our Flying With Kids series, Carly and Renee talk about keeping kids entertained on long flights, our very realistic approach to screen time while travelling, the toys and activities that have actually worked for us, and why a baby carrier can be one of the most useful things you pack.

We also cover power banks and charging devices, what landing day can look like after a long-haul flight, adjusting expectations when everyone is exhausted and some of the cultural differences we’ve noticed while travelling with children around the world.

This isn’t about creating the perfect activity bag or keeping kids quietly entertained for an entire flight. Sometimes the screen comes out, sometimes nothing you packed works, and sometimes getting everyone to the other side is enough.

    In this episode:

    • Toys and activities for flights
    • Screen time on travel days
    • Simple screen-free entertainment
    • Power banks and keeping devices charged
    • Why we love travelling with a baby carrier
    • Managing the first day after a long-haul flight
    • Adjusting expectations when you land
    • Cultural differences when travelling with kids

This is Part 3 and the final episode of our Flying With Kids series. Parts 1 and 2 cover sleep, snacks, car seats, ear pain, boarding and more of the practical realities of family flying.

  • Flying With Kids Part 2: Car Seats, Ear Pain & Flight Day Essentials
    2026/08/31

Flying with kids involves a lot more than keeping everyone entertained until you land. In Part 2 of our Flying With Kids series, Carly and Renee get into some of the practical things that can make a huge difference on travel day - from car seats and boarding to ear pain and what we keep in our first aid kits.

We talk about travelling with car seats, checking airline rules before you fly, the pros and cons of boarding early, and some of the things that have helped our kids with ear pressure during take-off and landing.

We also cover what we keep within reach on the plane, why a small first aid kit is always part of our carry-on, and the little practical decisions that can make a long travel day feel much more manageable.

Like everything with family travel, there isn’t one perfect way to do it. Different airlines have different rules, different kids cope differently, and sometimes the thing that worked perfectly on one flight does absolutely nothing on the next.

    In this episode:

    • Travelling with car seats
    • Checking airline car seat rules
    • Boarding early or waiting until later
    • Helping kids with ear pressure
    • Take-off and landing
    • What we keep in our first aid kit
    • Carry-on essentials
    • Making flight day a little less stressful

This is Part 2 of our Flying With Kids series. Part 1 covers sleep, snacks, transit airports and long-haul travel, while Part 3 gets into entertainment, screen time, baby carriers and landing day.

  • Flying With Kids, Part 1: What We Wish We Knew Before Our First Flight
    2026/08/31

Flying with kids can feel overwhelming before you’ve even reached the airport, especially when it’s your first flight with a baby or toddler.
In the first episode of Kids Who Travel, Carly and Renee share what they’ve learnt from years of travelling internationally with their daughters, including the things they wish they’d known before those early flights.
We talk about planning around sleep without expecting everything to go perfectly, why researching your transit airport can make a huge difference, packing far more snacks than you think you’ll need, keeping the important stuff within reach and bringing familiar comfort items from home. We also get into lost luggage, long-haul travel days and why your mindset can sometimes matter just as much as what you pack.
This isn’t a list of rules for flying with children. Every child is different, every flight is different, and plenty still goes wrong. These are simply the tips, mistakes and little things that have made flying with our own kids that bit easier.
If the thought of getting on a plane with your kids is one of the things holding you back from travelling, this episode is a good place to start.
    In this episode:

    • Sleep and flight timing
    • Snacks and carry-on essentials
    • Transit airports
    • Comfort items
    • Preparing for lost luggage
    • Surviving long-haul flights
    • Taking some of the pressure off yourself

This is Part 1 of our Flying With Kids series, with Parts 2 and 3 covering even more of the practical realities of family flying.
