On Kargil Vijay Diwas, Vishal Batra sits down for a conversation that goes well past the legend. He speaks about a childhood in a three-room school in Chowntra, the twin bond that made two brothers write one dream on a single application form, and the four letters Vikram sent from the front — the last one asking whether his brother had cleared a bank interview. He describes standing on Batra Top twenty years later, trying to understand what happened on a one-metre ledge, and answers the hardest questions: intelligence failure, revenge, the enemy, and what Vikram would have made of India today.Vishal Batra is the identical twin brother of Captain Vikram Batra, PVC — the "Shershaah" of Kargil. A finance professional turned custodian of his brother's legacy, he has climbed both Point 5140 and Point 4875 (Batra Top), and has now written a book on the life they shared before the war.
