The NFL’s 2026 schedule drops with the Chiefs kicking off at home in primetime—fueling wild speculation that it’s all about easing Patrick Mahomes back into action after injury. Michael Irvin jumps on the bandwagon, claiming the league crafted this home-heavy start to give Mahomes confidence before road games. While Mahomes showed flashes in Week 1 against Denver, tossing two TDs and an interception, the Chiefs’ next home date is Sunday Night Football against the Colts. Irvin amps it up further, linking the schedule to Travis Kelce’s wedding and Taylor Swift’s expected attendance, suggesting the league wants to set up a winning vibe at Arrowhead first. This isn’t just another schedule—it’s a loaded setup for Mahomes, Kelce, and the Chiefs’ dynasty run.

The Chiefs just snagged a hidden gem in Ben VanSumeren, a versatile fullback they grabbed off the Bills’ roster after cuts. Coaches call him a “four-phase weapon” — ready to crush it on offense, defense, and special teams. He’s already making his mark with 20+ snaps on special teams while learning the playbook, and his potential to boost the running game could be huge. After injuries stalled his early career, VanSumeren’s strong camp and preseason performance made his release by the Bills a surprise — and now, Kansas City sees him as a major steal poised to make waves this season.
