  • Ella Langley Strikes Gold With “Choosin’ Texas”
    2026/08/11

Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” proves that a country song does not need a complicated story to make a powerful impression. Sometimes all it takes is a broken heart, a cowboy, another woman and the realization that you never really stood a chance.

Released in October 2025 and later included on Langley’s 2026 album Dandelion, “Choosin’ Texas” was written by Langley, Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick and Joybeth Taylor. Lambert also provides background vocals and helped produce the recording.

The result feels both modern and unmistakably country.

At its heart, “Choosin’ Texas” is a love-triangle song. Langley plays the woman watching a man drift back toward Texas — and toward another woman who seems to represent everything he cannot leave behind.

What makes the song work is that Langley does not turn the other woman into a villain.

There is no revenge plot. There is no dramatic confrontation. Instead, there is resignation. The narrator can see what is happening and understands that she cannot stop it.

That gives the song an emotional maturity that separates it from many standard breakup songs.

The writing also uses geography brilliantly.

Tennessee and Texas become more than locations. They represent two competing lives. Abilene, the Smoky Mountains, Memphis, I-40 and the Lone Star State give listeners a mental map of the relationship.

One of the cleverest references comes when Langley realizes that his love of George Strait’s “Amarillo by Morning” may have been a warning all along. It is a small detail, but exactly the kind of line that rewards repeat listening.

Musically, “Choosin’ Texas” understands the importance of restraint.

Langley does not need to overpower the song vocally. Her performance has enough grit to sound believable while keeping enough vulnerability to make the heartbreak land. Steel guitar, acoustic guitar, electric guitars and a traditional country rhythm support the story without overwhelming it.

    That combination is important.

“Choosin’ Texas” sounds traditional enough for longtime country listeners but polished enough to reach well beyond country radio. Its crossover appeal became impossible to ignore as the song developed into a massive mainstream hit. By late July 2026, it had spent 15 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, according to The Guardian.

But chart numbers alone do not explain why the song connected.

The real strength is its simplicity.

You understand the situation almost immediately. You know who is losing. You know why she is losing. And most importantly, you believe her when she sings about it.

“Choosin’ Texas” takes one of country music’s oldest subjects — losing someone you love — and gives it a memorable geographical twist.

It is catchy without feeling manufactured, sad without becoming melodramatic and traditional without sounding dated.

    Rating: 9/10

“Choosin’ Texas” is the kind of country song that sounds obvious only after somebody writes it. That may be the greatest compliment of all.

  • H-1B Visa Rules Face Major Shift Under Trump Plan
    2026/08/11
The H-1B visa program is facing another potential major change as the Trump administration considers eliminating a protection that gives laid-off foreign workers up to 60 days to find another employer or change their immigration status. The proposal comes as debate over the H-1B program continues to intensify.Government statistics confirm one striking feature of the program: Indian-born workers overwhelmingly dominate H-1B approvals.According to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, workers born in India accounted for 71% of all approved H-1B petitions in fiscal year 2024. China ranked a distant second at 11.7%.That pattern continued in fiscal 2025. USCIS data reported in July showed approximately 283,772 Indian-born beneficiaries, or 69.9% of approvals, compared with about 49,161 Chinese-born beneficiaries, or 12.1%.Those numbers have fueled a broader political argument over whether H-1B remains focused on recruiting specialized talent or has become too concentrated within certain industries and labor pipelines.H-1B Lottery Rules Were Changed After Abuse ConcernsConcerns about manipulation of the H-1B registration system are not new. Before 2024 reforms, USCIS became concerned that companies could increase a worker's odds by submitting multiple registrations through different entities.USCIS responded by creating a beneficiary-centric selection process. Instead of giving each registration a separate chance of selection, the system was redesigned to give each individual beneficiary essentially the same opportunity regardless of how many registrations were filed on that person's behalf.USCIS explicitly said the change was intended to reduce potential fraud and "gaming" of the registration system. That distinction is important. Evidence exists that the previous system created incentives for multiple registrations, but describing the entire H-1B system as a "rigged lottery" goes beyond what federal findings establish.Indian Outsourcing Firms Are Losing H-1B GroundAnother significant development challenges the idea that Indian outsourcing companies are expanding their control of the program.Their share of new H-1B approvals has actually fallen sharply. In fiscal 2025, the seven largest India-based IT companies received approximately 4,573 approvals for initial employment, down 37% from 2024 and roughly 70% from 2015 levels.Meanwhile, American technology companies increasingly dominated new approvals. Amazon received 4,644 approvals for initial employment, followed by Meta, Microsoft and Google. The statistics suggest that Indian nationals remain dominant among individual H-1B beneficiaries even as traditional Indian outsourcing companies become less dominant among sponsoring employers.Cognizant Case Raises Serious Discrimination QuestionsCriticism of employment practices involving visa workers gained significant support from a major federal discrimination case involving Cognizant. In October 2024, a California federal jury found that Cognizant engaged in a pattern or practice of intentional discrimination against non-South Asian and non-Indian employees who were terminated from the company's "bench."The litigation continued.According to Cognizant's own SEC disclosures, a federal court in December 2025 also found in the plaintiffs' favor on a disparate-impact claim involving company policies. The case was proceeding toward individualized determinations of liability and damages. The ruling provides documented evidence that discrimination occurred at a major H-1B employer. It does not, however, establish that every company using H-1B workers follows similar practices.Trump Administration Targets 60-Day Grace PeriodThe newest controversy involves workers who lose their jobs.Current regulations generally provide eligible H-1B workers with a discretionary grace period of up to 60 days following termination, or until their authorized stay expires, whichever comes first. The Trump administration is now advancing a proposal that could eliminate that protection.Recent reporting shows DHS has moved forward with a proposed regulation aimed at removing the 60-day period. But there is a critical distinction: the grace period has not yet been eliminated. The proposal must move through the federal regulatory process. Details could also change before a final rule takes effect. If ultimately adopted substantially as envisioned, losing a job could have far more immediate immigration consequences for H-1B workers.Frisco Reflects America's Changing DemographicsFrisco, Texas, is frequently cited in discussions about the growth of the Indian-American technology workforce. The city has unquestionably experienced dramatic demographic change.Census Bureau figures estimate Frisco's population reached approximately 236,955 in 2025, an increase of more than 18% from its 2020 population base. Asians represent about 28.1% of residents, while 27.3% of Frisco residents are foreign-born.However, those statistics do not establish that the ...

  • Trump Used Catering Truck in Secret Air Force One Exit
    2026/08/11
President Donald Trump reportedly took part in an extraordinary security operation that involved a catering truck, a decoy Air Force One and a secret military flight after U.S. officials became concerned about a possible Iranian threat. The operation happened on July 8, 2026, as Trump prepared to leave Ankara, Turkey, following a NATO summit.According to reporting first detailed by The Washington Post and subsequently reported by ABC News, the Associated Press and other outlets, Trump publicly boarded the familiar presidential Boeing 747 before secretly leaving the aircraft and traveling to another military plane. The unusual operation appears to show just how seriously American security officials were taking the potential threat.Trump Publicly Boarded Air Force OneTo reporters and television cameras watching Trump's departure, everything initially appeared normal.Trump boarded the older VC-25A Air Force One at Ankara Esenboğa Airport. Reporters and members of the traveling White House staff also prepared for the flight.Behind the scenes, however, a different plan was reportedly underway. The Washington Post reported that a catering vehicle approached the presidential aircraft. Video reviewed by the newspaper reportedly showed a man in a suit entering the truck's cab before the vehicle pulled away from Air Force One and traveled toward a smaller military aircraft.According to ABC News, Trump was transferred using the catering equipment normally used to load food and beverages onto an aircraft. The smaller aircraft was an Air Force C-32A, a military version of the Boeing 757 commonly used to transport senior U.S. officials.Trump reportedly used that aircraft to fly secretly to the United Kingdom.Air Force One Became a DecoyPerhaps the most remarkable part of the operation was what happened to the original Air Force One.It still departed Turkey.Reporters aboard the aircraft apparently believed Trump was traveling with them. Even some White House officials reportedly were not told the president had switched planes.ABC News reported that passengers were instructed to keep the aircraft's window shades closed throughout the flight under a Secret Service directive. The plane's transponder was also reportedly turned off.The result was an elaborate presidential decoy.Anyone attempting to determine Trump's location could reasonably have assumed he remained aboard the highly recognizable presidential 747.Iranian Threat Reportedly Drove Security PlanThe extraordinary precautions reportedly came amid concerns about a possible Iranian threat against Trump.ABC News had previously reported that Trump was advised not to use another presidential aircraft because of security concerns connected to escalating tensions with Iran. The White House did not confirm the specific details of the catering-truck operation to ABC News. However, it issued a statement acknowledging threats against the president."As the President has said recently, there are many enemies of America who have their sights on him," the White House told ABC News, adding that officials use available tools to address those threats. The Associated Press also reported that the elaborate departure was connected to an Iranian threat and described the operation as a security precaution.Trump Later Reappeared in BritainThe secrecy did not end when Trump left Turkey. After traveling aboard the smaller C-32A, Trump arrived at RAF Mildenhall in the United Kingdom. He was later seen descending the stairs of the older Air Force One before transferring to the newer Qatari-gifted presidential aircraft for the trip back to the United States.ABC News said it remains unclear exactly how Trump returned to the older Air Force One before that public appearance. When reporters later asked Trump whether security concerns were responsible for the aircraft changes, he initially said no.But when questioned about why reporters had been ordered to close their window shades, Trump acknowledged that the flight could have been dangerous because of people the United States was dealing with.Presidential Decoys Have Been Used BeforeWhile the details sound more like a spy thriller than presidential travel, secrecy and deception have previously been used to protect American presidents.Presidential movements are closely guarded, particularly when officials believe there is a credible threat. Flight plans can change, aircraft can operate with limited tracking information and travel details can be withheld from reporters. What makes the Turkey operation remarkable is its reported complexity.A president apparently boarded Air Force One in public, disappeared into an airport catering operation and secretly boarded another military aircraft while the presidential 747 continued its journey as a decoy. The Associated Press noted that such measures are unusual but not without precedent when presidential security requires extraordinary precautions.Questions Remain About Trump's Secret FlightSome important ...
