The Justice as Attitude Club (JAA) brings together designers, researchers and artists at UAL interested in exploring how fashion, ecology, technology, and futures thinking come together under the heading of justice, fostering honest dialogue, critical reflection, and creative action.

The JAA club is for designers who are interested in radical design approaches and investigate how to change the fashion system. We believe that fashion can do more, and better and that fashion education has great potential as a medium to implement justice and reinvent itself along the way.

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

In this episode, Lalitha Alwan and Tejaswini Sood give examples on how they try to tackle justice through narrative devices in their positions within the global fashion industry and cocreating with Indian craft makers respectively.

Lalitha looks into how design can support the transformation of Indian craft ecosystems by enabling more equitable, future-oriented forms of collaboration and governance. While India’s craft systems are culturally rich, they are structurally fragile, shaped by fragmented stakeholder relationships, power imbalances, and limited opportunities for artisans to participate in decision-making or long-term futures thinking.

Tejaswini, passionate about forecasting and fashion research that moves beyond aesthetics — discusses how she tries to challenge industry norms through imaginative workshops and exercises that foreground sustainable and just practices in the fashion industry.

Hey! I'd love to hear your thoughts, send me a voice note.

In this episode, our guests Antonia Bruno and Sean-Henry Fitzsimons share their thoughts on how automation and specialisation impacts on craft and making. Meandering between historic developments in robotics, the current model for economic appreciation of arts and craft in the Republic of Ireland, and the many ways in which AI causes a cultural shift not only in making but in educating students, their discussion highlights the need to consider AI not as separate but structural force.
