Through this word, the Gospel of John clearly reveals the purpose of its writing. This Gospel calls us to know who Jesus is and, by believing in the heart the salvation He accomplished, to have life. Therefore, to read the Gospel of John is a journey of faith in which we meet the Lord of life and accept as our own salvation the salvation He accomplished with the water and the Spirit.

General Introduction. Who is the author of the Gospel of John? The author of the Gospel of John is the Apostle John, the son of Zebedee. He was one of the twelve disciples of Jesus, and he witnessed the Lord's ministry, the Cross, and the resurrection with his own eyes. The figure who appears in this Gospel as 'the disciple whom Jesus loved' is none other than the Apostle John, and John chapter twenty-one, verse twenty-four makes it clear that he is the disciple who testified of these things and wrote them down.

John 1:1–4 proclaims that Jesus Christ is not a mere human being or a creature, but God who was with God from the beginning and created all things. If Genesis 1:1–5 shows the event in which God created the heavens and the earth by His word, the Gospel of John reveals that this Word of creation is none other than Jesus Christ.

The words “In the beginning was the Word” mean that Jesus Christ already existed even before the heavens and the earth were created. Here, “The Word” does not refer simply to words that come out of the mouth or to an abstract idea. It refers to Jesus Christ, who was with God the Father and who Himself created all things by His word. The words that follow also make this clear.

When we look at the word of 1 John 3:7–9, it is written as follows. “Little children, let no one deceive you. He who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous. He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.” Just as verse 8 says, the Son of God was manifested in order to destroy the works of the devil.

We know well the word we have read. There was a man who came to bear witness of the Light, and that man is John the Baptist. Since it says that this man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe, it means that the first evangelist of the gospel is John the Baptist. It is because John the Baptist baptized Jesus and passed the sin of the world on to Jesus. He transferred the sin of the world to Jesus, and Jesus received the judgment for that sin on the Cross and rose from the dead and became our Savior. The one who took part in this ministry, that is, the ministry of Jesus, was John the Baptist, and it was God’s way that all people would come to believe in Jesus through John the Baptist testifying of Jesus.

The Apostle John, a disciple of Jesus, begins the word again in John 1:14. In chapter 1 verses 1 to 13, he testified that the Word was God, that the One who created the heavens and the earth is that Word, and that He is none other than Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Jesus Christ was with the Father and was also with the Holy Spirit. People did not recognize Him, but He was testified of through a man named John, whom God sent. It says, “He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name” (John 1:11–12). Becoming a child of God, becoming a worker of God, and becoming a person who enters the kingdom of heaven do not come about by blood or family line, but only through God. Only those whom God has newly begotten become the people of God. After delivering this word, the Apostle John sums it up once more in verses 14 to 18.
