Tim and Michael explore how Jimmy Stewart remained a familiar and relevant presence during the final decades of his life—from embracing the early days of home video and pioneering HBO original programming, to appearing in memorable commercials and reading his poetry on The Tonight Show.
They look at Jimmy’s pioneering commentary track for Winchester ’73, Dana Carvey’s memorable Saturday Night Live Stewart impersonations, and the ways new generations continued to discover him. Along the way, Michael gets a long-overdue introduction to The Simpsons, including the Rear Window-spoofing episode “Bart of Darkness.”
And they consider how the qualities associated with Jimmy—decency, humility, kindness and quiet conviction—continue to echo through characters from Kermit the Frog to Ted Lasso.
