    One season down - two more to go. That's where we're at in the NJ HS sports world now as the fall is officially over and the winter has arrived. Jay Cook is joined by James Mooney in this episode as we go through the gamut. The book is closed on the football season after Camden completed the South Jersey sweep, winning the Group 2 championship - James has the headlines from that final (02:20). This week's Blast From The Past spotlights former Cedar Creek star and current Green Bay Packer Bo Melton, who scored his first touchdown of the season Sunday against the Chicago Bears (09:35). High school hockey is already well underway so we take a preview some of the top teams and players statewide, including the presumptive preseason No. 1 team, Delbarton, as well as our reigning Player of the Year, Braydon Sisco (11:47). The boys' basketball season here in the Garden State is going to look a lot different as some top talent has left New Jersey. We dive into the top teams and players to watch all winter long (27:25). The same can be said for girls' basketball around New Jersey - there will be a new No. 1 team to open the year and plenty of great teams are vying for that spot (48:00). We close out this week's show with an update on our Zoneman Trophy balloting and a preview of what's to come with our All-Zone football postseason honors (59:27).

  • Beyond The Score Podcast | Episode 14 | NJ Football State Finals Recaps!

    We're officially at the very end of the 2025 high school football season - so let's break down six of the seven state finals! Black Friday at MetLife Stadium was highlighted by the two Non-Public state championships and the guys have full breakdowns from St. Joe's and DePaul Catholic securing state titles (03:34). James Mooney joins the show live to discuss the Groups 5, 4, 3 and 1 state championship games that all had the same theme - South Jersey dominance. Washingtown Township, Winslow, Cedar Creek and Glassboro all won group titles and the guys go through each title game (27:42). This week's Blast from the Past profiles former Don Bosco Prep QB Nick Minicucci, who broke Joe Flacco's single season yards per game record at the University of Delaware (49:52). Then, Rich and Jay announce the finalists for the 2025 Zoneman Trophy, which is JSZ's annual statewide Player of the Year award. We highlight previous winners and discuss why we chose the seven finalists for this year's honor (51:57). Finally, we close out the show with a behind-the-scenes look at how we choose our All-Zone football team (01:16:19).

    Its...TIME! The last stage of the New Jersey high school football season has arrived and it's time to break it all down. Rich Chrampanis, Jay Cook and James Mooney go game by game previewing all seven state finals. They hit on the Group 5 state final (02:05), the Group 4 state final (08:43) and the Group 3 state final (20:13) in the first segment. The second preview segment focuses on the small school championships, highlighted by Group 2 (30:30) and Group 1 (38:57). Then, Rich and Jay settle in to dissect the two Non-Public state championships clashes - Non-Public B (50:43) and Non-Public A (01:00:55). This week's Blast From The Past spotlights former Toms River North star QB Micah Ford, who's playing well right now at Stanford (01:16:34). The NJ high school soccer season has officially come to a close and the guys put the final bow on it after eight state championships over this past weekend (01:18:13).
