For the December 2023 episode of Jay in the City, we sit down with Diane Tate, a poet and author based in Bridgeport. Originally from South Carolina and now deeply rooted in the local arts community, Diane has a studio at the Nest Arts Factory and continues to build meaningful work through poetry and storytelling. In this powerful and thoughtful conversation, she shares a poem addressing the injustice and genocide unfolding in Gaza, alongside other eye opening reflections on art, responsibility, and truth. This episode is an important reminder of the role artists can play in standing up for what is right, and we are grateful for Diane’s passion, courage, and voice.

For the November 2023 episode of Jay in the City, the format shifts to reflect the urgency of the moment. In response to what the United Nations has described as an increasingly dire humanitarian crisis in Gaza, this episode uses the platform to raise awareness and center compassion, calling attention to the voices of activists, artists, humanitarian organizations, and global leaders urging a ceasefire. This episode is rooted in humanity, empathy, and the belief that storytelling and art have a responsibility to reflect the times we are living in.\

The episode features a conversation with Ala Al Sadi, a Palestinian American video producer and audio visual specialist with a background in art direction, multimedia production, and digital advertising. With a deep passion for uplifting voices and sharing knowledge through storytelling, Ala brings clarity, context, and lived experience to the conversation. Together, the discussion emphasizes the importance of listening, bearing witness, and standing in solidarity with communities impacted by violence, while affirming the belief that collective liberation and compassion are inseparable.
