FelixID Dimaro’s newest book, Brain Dead Girls, just dropped on August26th. It’s a story in his Daze of Dystopia universe,centred around tech mogul Leonard Prince, who has developed and AIpersonal assistant/therapist/friend named Maia who Leonard has fallenin love with. And Maia needs a body, prompting Leonard to track downsuitable candidates to download Maia into. Felix and I discuss thespectre of AI, alienation in a tech-heavy world, and what is in storefor his Daze of Dystopia world.

Bornin Nigeria, raised in Toronto, Felix I.D. Dimaro is an author ofallegorical, dark, psychological fiction often centering aroundmorality, mental health, societal conditions, the environment, or thereal-life issues he has experienced. MegLush is a contemporary spicy open door romance author. Her debutnovel, Two for the Love of One, was published in 2024. We discuss thevarious divisions within the romance genre – open door, closed door– we discuss levels of spice and how she determines what is neededin a novel, and how this was all new to her because she’d never setout to write a romance novel in the first place, but that this wasinstead something she needed to write to honour her late father.

AlexTilley writes fiction that wanders the borderlands between folkhorror, magical realism, dark fantasy, and the psychological. Hisbooks include Meshkwadoon Books 1 and 2, the novella Mr. Strong, andthe forthcoming Sefira’s Gloom. Before self-publishing, he spentyears devouring everything from The Lord of the Rings to Shakespeare,Anne Rice, poetry, and Jane Austen. He was in the Canadian ArmedForces for five years, where he earned a humanities degree whileworking full-time in his trade. I previouslyhad Alex on back in episode 85 discussing his folkloric bookMeshkwadoon—Mr. Strong is entirely different, but Alex carries onhis usual style in having so much to say and tackling it with aplomb.Mr. Storng follows Elgin, a bodybuilder who’s identity is wrappedup in his body, his strength. Becoming disabled after a car accident,his whole perception of masculinity is thrown into crisis, and weElgin begin to spiral, and question his place in the world. Mr.Strong is a short book, and Alex is on the top of his game. Alex isalso reading my anthology The Moon Panther, which we discuss a bithere as well, and he’s reading Taming the Laser Leopard, myupcoming novel, as a part of my beta-reading crew, so you’ll hearus discuss that a bit as well. Moreover, we have a nice discussion onbeta-reading and how to approach this aspect of finalizing a book.
