Jakob Böhme (1575–1624) was a German Lutheran mystic, visionary, and theosophical writer whose highly original theology profoundly influenced later German philosophy, Romanticism, and mystical Christianity. His mysticism appears inspired by mystics that preceded him centuries earlier and despite being excommunicated by his church, his writings went on to inspire others in his day and centuries later.
