A volleyball game in Fernandina Beach turned explosive when students held up a Black doll and yelled at the opposing team, sparking outrage over racial harassment. Though the school district’s investigation found no evidence of racial slurs, it acknowledged the doll’s use was inappropriate — despite claiming it came from a parenting class assignment. Over 200 community members rallied at a church demanding accountability, criticizing the superintendent’s apology as hollow and calling for disciplinary action against students and staff. The incident has ignited a broader conversation about systemic racism and the urgent need for real change in schools and beyond.

Baldwin Middle-Senior High’s principal, Michael Smith, has been fired after a loaded handgun was found in his car on school grounds—triggering an immediate district response and a potential criminal probe. Already under fire for past misconduct allegations dating back to 2016, this incident marks his fourth professional standards investigation in a decade. Despite previous reassignments and coaching, Smith’s short tenure at Baldwin ended abruptly as the district prioritizes student safety and launches its own internal review. The gun violation is being treated as a separate, serious breach—even though community concerns about his history were previously acknowledged.

The Jaguars just pulled off a savvy move, signing versatile edge rusher BJ Ojulari to fill the void left by injured defensive end BJ Green. With Green sidelined for at least a week and possibly longer, Ojulari brings immediate depth, special teams experience, and coverage versatility — all while being just 24 and a former top-50 draft pick. Though injuries have derailed his early career, the Jags’ knack for developing overlooked talent makes this a smart gamble. If Ojulari can contribute on the pass rush and special teams, this could be a breakout signing that bolsters their defense without panic.
