Lots of very big matches are made for Summerslam with a very shallow build. Sami Zayn was set to defend the WWE title on Raw against Cody Rhodes. Gunther attacks Cody and prevents him from competing. CM Punk answers the call and takes on Sami in the main event. Punk wins the WWE title and will face Cody Rhodes at Summerslam. LA Knight and Seth Rollins have one of the favorite segments of the week if not year. Bloodline attacks LA Knight and Royce Keyes on separate occasions. World Tag and Women's IC titles defended on Raw. On Smackdown Gunther attacks Nick Aldis. Jade injures Alex Bliss. Baron Corbin returns and attacks Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams.

No Mercy 2008 will probably go down as my favorite PPV of 2008 outside of WM 24. Raw and Smackdown both had two fantastic main events. World title on the line in a ladder match between Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels. Triple H defended the WWE title against Jeff Hardy. Big Show and Undertaker start their series of grudge matches. Kane and Rey Mysterio are hopefully 1 step closer to the end of theirs. The # 1 contender World title match between Batista and JBL was not the best. However, JBL cut one of the best promos of 2008 after the match. MVP voices his displeasure being on Smackdown. This led to a CM Punk, Kofi Kingston, and Legacy appearance. And so much more on this show and the 4 weeks leading into it.

Oba Femi decides to face Brock Lesnar at Summerslam instead of a World Champion. And not in just another singles match but Hell in a Cell. Cody Rhodes and Jey Uso battled on Smackdown where the winner will take on Sami Zayn for the WWE title on next week's Raw. Roman Reigns accepts Seth Rollins challenge for the World title at Summerslam. Chad Gable vs JD McDonagh and Rey Fenix vs El Hijo del Vikingo were the matches of the week.

Night of Champions was the biggest night of Sami Zayn's wrestling career as he won his first WWE title against Cody Rhodes and Gunther. Men's King of the Ring final between Oba Femi and Jey Uso. Women's Queen of the Ring final between Iyo Sky and Liv Morgan. Bron Breakker and Seth Rollins fight in a Steel Cage. Men's and Women's U.S titles also were on the line.

Mask vs Mask between the original and real El Grande Americanos stole these two weeks worth of shows. Even with Clash in Italy set to be a very stacked card.For Clash Roman Reigns took on Jacob Fatu in a Tribal Combat match for the World title. Cody Rhodes defended the WWE title against Gunther. Brock Lesnar vs Oba Femi Part 2. Rhea and Jade put on a great performance for the Women’s WWE title. Not to forget SNME’s solid card with the IC title match between Penta and Ethan Page and the World Tag title titles being defended.

Unforgiven 2008 was the beginning of PPVs starting to take on their own identity. This one being 3 separate championship scramble matches. One for the WWE, World Heavyweight, and ECW championships. Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels take their rivalry of the year to the next level with an unsanctioned match. Vickie Guerrero and The Undertaker go face to face in the ring. Cryme Tyme takes on Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase for the World tag titles. Divas title on the line between Michelle McCool and Maryse.

Summerslam 2008 is one of my favorite PPVs I have watched in this series. You know it’s going to be an interesting show when the Raw and Smackdown main events do not involve the world champions. Edge and Undertaker fought in a Hell in a Cell match. Batista took on John Cena. CM Punk defended his world title against JBL. Triple H faced the great Khalil for the WWE title. Shawn Michaels was scheduled to make an announcement on his career. Chris Jericho foiled those plans. Much more on the Summerslam card. Also cover several releases and signings that happened during this time in 2008.
