The Bible does not present candles as a weapon against demons, but as a powerful symbol of God's light and truth. Scripture frequently uses the lamp (or "candle" in older translations) to represent divine guidance, as in Psalm 119:105: "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path" [citation:4][citation:9]. Jesus calls believers "the light of the world" and teaches that a lamp should not be hidden under a basket [citation:4][citation:6]. The devil hates the light because it reminds him of Jesus, the true "Light of the World" [citation:1]. While some later traditions use blessed candles in prayer to drive out darkness, Scripture makes clear that it is Jesus who dispels evil, not the candle itself. A lamp is a metaphor for the Word of God, the presence of the Holy Spirit, and the witness of believers, not a magical weapon [citation:12].
