Kilkee residents and visitors are taking their battle against a controversial wastewater plant to the Supreme Court, after losing a costly High Court challenge. The proposed facility, near the iconic Cliff Walk, faces fierce opposition over fears it’s not true treatment—just a “slurry tank” that pumps untreated sludge into the sea. Campaigners, who raised nearly $100,000 via GoFundMe, accuse Uisce Éireann of contempt, calling the project a threat to public health and local waters, especially a nearby stream used by children. With legal costs potentially doubling if they lose, they’re fighting as underdogs against a powerful state entity, demanding a proper tertiary treatment plant built for Kilkee’s real summer population—not inflated projections.

Twenty-three-year-old Manchester United goalkeeper Dermot Mee made history at Croke Park, saving a penalty in a shootout win against Leeds — and doing it on the very pitch where his mother once played camogie. With deep Irish roots tying him to Limerick, Wexford, Galway, and Tyrone, Mee felt the emotional weight of stepping onto that hallowed ground, especially as he watched the All-Ireland Hurling Final between two teams connected to his family. He credits his GAA upbringing — kicking, catching, and playing with his mom and grandparents — for shaping his unique goalkeeping style, blending football and Gaelic tradition into one unforgettable moment.
