My name is Rafael. And before anything else — yes, you're going to hear an accent. I'm not a professional broadcaster, and English isn't my first language. But I decided that if this newsletter is going to become a podcast, it should sound like me. Not a studio voice. Not someone else reading my words. Me. Because I think the ideas land better when you know there's a real person behind them, who has actually lived through the mistakes and the wins I'm about to describe.

So, what is this show?

Over the past few years, I've been writing about something I call the Kingdom of Mediocrity - the default state that most organizations quietly fall into. Not through some dramatic failure, but through a thousand small, tolerated compromises. Comfortable routines. Political games. People who look busy but don't actually own anything. And on the other side of that, I've been writing about what I call the Flywheel of Excellence - cultures built on trust, real meritocracy, and what I call the True Ownership Mindset, where people think and act like the business is theirs.

I've spent my career inside these dynamics — leading teams and transformations at AB InBev, Americana Foods, Agthia Group, Galapagos Capital, and earlier, advising on some of the biggest deals in the world at J.P. Morgan, Citigroup, and Barclays Capital. I've seen both kingdoms up close. I've built some flywheels, and I've made plenty of mistakes building others.

Each episode of this podcast will walk through one article from the Unlock Growth newsletter - the same ideas, but spoken, so you can listen on a run, in traffic, or between meetings. I won't just read the article to you. I'll try to bring you into the room where the idea came from - the specific meeting, the specific decision, the specific moment I was actually trying to solve.

I'm not going to give you empty positivity or generic leadership platitudes. I'm going to give you the brutal facts, some uncomfortable questions, and a genuine attempt to help you build something better - whether you're running a team of five or a company of fifty thousand.
