Dr. Milton Mutch, a 2014 South Dakota Hall of Fame Inductee, arrived in Sioux Falls in 1959 as one of the first board-certified OB-GYNs in the state, and over the next four decades he delivered nearly 10,000 babies while introducing medical firsts that changed how South Dakota families receive care.
In this interview, 2021 Inductee Angela Kennecke sits down with Dr. Mutch to talk about what he calls the golden generation of medicine, the lessons he learned from mentors and from the nurses who worked beside him, and the gratitude that has defined his life at age 98.
Watch to learn:
— How Dr. Mutch launched a practice in 1959 with "a wife, three kids, and fifty charts" and helped bring specialized obstetric care to South Dakota
— The story behind the state's first intrauterine transfusion, and the moment decades later when a woman tapped him on the shoulder to say she was one of his patients
— The two principles Dr. Mutch lived by, and why he believes a strong team matters more than any individual talent
