How do you turn everyday iPhone footage into a social media video that helps people see the quality of your work?
Step inside the edit with Michael Page of 1 Reason Media for a practical look at filming, editing, and the creative decisions behind a 30-second business video.
In this episode, “Inside the Edit — Building a Social Video,” I walk through a real client project for HT Upfitting, turning 12 iPhone clips into a video built around their promise: “Craftsmanship Without Compromise.” The subject is the detail customers might otherwise miss—the clean wiring, equipment placement, and care inside an emergency vehicle upfit.
We start by exploring TikTok’s AutoCut feature and templates, then move into Final Cut Pro for more control over the music, pacing, and story. You’ll follow along as I choose a track from Artlist, review the footage, cut to the beat, and work through the small adjustments that bring the video together.
Along the way, I share:
- Why I aim to record at least 10 seconds per clip, even for a short video.
- How moving shots and stationary close-ups give you more editing options.
- What makes an opening shot worth using as your hook.
- How to balance quick cuts with enough time for viewers to appreciate the work.
- Why every change in camera angle or movement should have a purpose.
- How I use stabilization, beat detection, cropping, and basic color correction in Final Cut Pro.
- How the client’s brand message guides the edit, from the first shot to the final frame.
You’ll hear the decisions, second guesses, and problem-solving as they happen, including why a template can look exciting and still miss what the business needs to communicate.
If you’re a small business owner filming your own work, a content creator learning video editing, or a marketer developing short-form videos for TikTok, Instagram Reels, or Facebook, this episode gives you practical ideas to bring into your next project. It also shows what goes into helping potential customers recognize the value behind a business’s work.
Watch the video version to follow the timeline and see the adjustments on screen, or listen as I explain the process.
